Need to Enhance the Quality of life Stressed

Hemant Joshi, Advisor to A.A. Nass Group of companies, Bahrain underscored the need for a paradigm shift in the approach to Business Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) so as to shift the focus from materialism to enhancement of quality of human life where individuals play the role of catalytic agents of change.

He was delivering a talk at the Valedictory of the three days International Conference on Business Ethics and CSR organized by the Institute on Saturday.

“The world is full of unscrupulous, greedy schemers who turn into profiteers for instant gratification, which send wrong signal to the society wherein the people become despondent and pessimistic. Yet, instead of turning a blind eye to such a situation adverse to the progress of mankind, we have to make a fresh beginning to bring necessary changes for the good of our own community – starting right from the man in the mirror,” – he said.

It is high time that the terms “Need” and “greed”, “profit” and “profiteering” are clearly demarcated so that the concept of Business Ethics and Corporate social Responsibility became truly relevant to Society, Corporate Social Responsibility is essentially a continuous process but not a destination which needs to be evolved on a long term perspective and to suit individuals convenience.

Later, C.L Rathi, Chairman and Managing Director of Advanced Enzyme Technologies Ltd., Thane, sought to enlighten the gathering on spiritual consciousness, which he observed as central to ethical practices and social responsibility and not just business ethics and corporate social responsibility.

On the occasion, he gave away the first prize to Sharad Raghunath Kulkarni of Nasik, Maharashtra, for his presentation of paper on “Business Ethics and CSR”. The Road Ahead”. It was selected out of 65 papers presented during the conference.
