Ever since Michael Douglas said *Greed is good*, the negative attribute has magnetized a mix of favorable and unfavorable responses. I have been following global markets for two years now, and upon analysing its history have realized that greed has instead played a critical role in improving the price discovery and endurance levels for many asset classes.

Be it the Bank Loan crisis of the 1980s in Latam America, the real-estate bubble 0f 1997 in Asia, to the mortgage and CDS crackdown of 2007 in the US, all these events have educated the investors all over about the dos and donts of excessive usgage of any asset class. Every crisis has been a learning for the regulators to regulate markets and different asset classes in a better manner. Today, for instance, Credit Default Swaps market is seeing far-reaching regulatory improvements in the form of the ISDA sponsored *Auction Hardwiring*, the Big Bang and the Small Bang, it is only because of the misadventure of the likes of Lehman, AIG and Bear Sterns. Now we all know the harm of excessive leveraging and prime brokerages only because the markets experimented fiercely. I feel such kind of experimentations which culminate into crisis are a short-term pain we would have to bear to ensure fool-proof regulation of the markets in the long-term.

Hence, like Michael Douglas, I too feel somewhere, Greed is indeed not that bad a thing.
